The company has always been in the timber business, it began by hauling timber from the woodlands to the local coal mines, which then naturally progressed into sawmilling timber for other customer’s requirements.

Sawmilling has always been at the heart of A.J.Charltons & Sons, sawing mainly hardwoods allowed us to supplying some of the top UK furniture manufacturers, from the likes of Ercol, Airsprung, Silent night and the Christie Tyler group. It is from this that our hardwood timber side grew and expanded into producing our own furniture and flooring which was sold through our local retail store.

In 1999 we made the change to develop our custom made furniture into something that we could take to a wider market. With the knowledge from both our cabinetmakers and product sourcing side we developed a range of products that was well designed and well priced and so became Charltons Furniture.

We now distribute our collections of furniture all over the UK to selected stockists.

The sawmill side has established a quality supply of softwood fencing under the “Longlast” brand carefully pressure treated for durability and works very closely with our Joinery division (Charltons gates) where we manufacturing high quality wooden gates, hand made by craftsmen using traditional techniques.
